Application period of the II M. Magomaev International Vocalists Contest is completeThe II Muslim Magomaev International Vocalists contest, to be held in Moscow on 20 and 21 October 2012 at the stage of Crocus City Hall, completed the contender application period on the threshold of May holidays. The contest is devoted to the 70th birthday of the great singer. The contest established by the Muslim Magomaev Musical and Cultural Heritage Fund is unique because the vocalists must demonstrate their gift and skill both for classic and pop repertoire.Again the jury panel of the II International Contest includes leading opera and pop singers, directors of music theatres, composers and musicians. The jury panel is headed by professor Tamara Sinyavskaya, the People’s artist of the USSR, principal singer of the Bolshoi Theatre. The contest shall be structured in two rounds and widely covered by Russian and foreign mass media. Tamara Sinyavskaya, head of the jury panel, believes that this year the Magomaev contest may be worthy called an international contest because applications for participation have been provided by talented vocalists from 18 countries. Of course representatives of Russia submitted the leading number of applications, also applications have been received from the Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Northern Korea, Kirgizia, Tajikistan, the Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Moldova and the USA. “We are rising to the new level, the contest is gaining more interest, more people learn about it not only in countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States but also in the whole world. We have received more than 200 applications from genuinely talented and interesting vocalists. There is a difficult choice ahead since just best 15, future participants of this contest, should be selected from a great number of singers”, noted Tamara Sinyavskaya. Elimination round completes on 15 May, participants (15 persons remaining) will be announced at the first official contest press conference scheduled for 24 May in ITAR-TASS.

One of the key goals is to prepare and hold the International Contest for Vocal Singers named after M. Magomaev. The starting point of this idea was M. Magomaev Memorial Evening held on 25 October 2009 on the stage of the most modern concert hall — Crocus City Hall built by his friend Aras Agalarov in the memory of Muslim. The idea of this music project appeared absolutely naturally. There are many contests for vocal singers in the world but none of them combines participation of singers capable to perform both classical repertoire and modern pop music.
